Bringing a Cottage Back, Board by Board

An established cottage refreshed from the floor up: the original boards sanded back and blackbutt-toned hybrid planks laid through the kitchen, dining and living spaces.

The starting point

The cottage's original floorboards carried decades of wear, and the kitchen was mid-renovation with cabinetry still going in. The new floor had to go down around the fit-out and sit comfortably with the home's leadlight-and-timber character.

Freshly laid blackbutt-toned planks across a large cottage living room, garden through every window.
New planks meeting the cottage's leadlight front door and verandah.

What went down

The old boards were machine-sanded back (the clip on our gallery tile shows the process), and blackbutt-toned hybrid planks were laid through the kitchen, dining and living areas, tying the renovated spaces back to the cottage's original joinery.
